    Water Basin Tea Trays

This is among my first attempts to make water basin tea trays.  There is a "top" where the tea pot and cups sit; this can be removed and underneath is where water and/or tea spilled would collect.  Thus the reason for the "top" having slits for water runoff.  On this particular tray I used walnut and a piece of poplar for the slats to rest on secured with oak dowels.  Of course the real challenge is how to keep the water from warping the basin;  I have been using polyurethane, which works OK but not great.  Any suggestions?
